Boris Cherny, head of Claude Code, expressed in an interview that he is tired of the term 'atmospheric programming,' believing that the term no longer accurately reflects the important role AI plays in programming. The term was coined by co-founder of OpenAI Andrej Karpathy in 2025 and quickly became a common way to describe AI-assisted programming, even being included in Collins Online.
